
Douglas Bostock has made an impressive reputation
for himself all over the world. Principal Conductor of the
Aargau Symphony in Switzerland and Principal Guest Conductor
of the internationally renowned Czech Chamber Philharmonic
since 1992, he has worked extensively with many of the prominent
orchestras in Europe, the US and Japan. Douglas Bostock's keen
interest in wind repertoire is reflected in his position as
Music Director of the Tokyo Kosei Wind Orchestra since 2000.
His international experience in this field has involved collaborations
with numerous ensembles and composers, including many premiere
performances.
Guest conducting engagements in the UK include appearances
with the BBC Symphony, BBC Philharmonic, Royal Liverpool Philharmonic,
Royal Philharmonic, BBC National Orchestra of Wales and Royal
Scottish National Orchestras, whilst in Europe Bostock collaborates
regularly with major orchestras in the Czech Republic, Italy,
Germany, Switzerland, Denmark, Austria, and France. Engagements
in North America include the Kansas City Symphony, National
Chamber Orchestra, Colorado Festival Orchestra, Chicago Chamber
Orchestra, Kitchener Waterloo Symphony Orchestra and Calgary
Symphony. In Japan guest conducting engagements have taken
him to the Tokyo City Philharmonic, Kanagawa Philharmonic,
Gunma Symphony, and Gei-Dai Orchestras and in Mexico to the
Mexico State Symphony Orchestra.
From 1991 - 1998 Bostock was appointed Music Director and Principal
Conductor of the Carlsbad Symphony Orchestra, one of the leading
orchestras in the Czech Republic, a position which he held
until 1998. Under his leadership the orchestra developed significantly,
winning recognition both in the Czech Republic and further
afield.
During his career Mr Bostock has recorded more than 60 CDs,
reflecting his diverse expertise in music of all styles. His
major recording cycles of the symphonies of Carl Nielsen (with
the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic) and Robert Schumann (with
the Czech Chamber Philharmonic) have won particular international
acclaim. He has also recorded a myriad of lesser known, previously
unrecorded works by composers such as Mozart, Bellini, Elgar,
Saint-Saens, Holst, and Delius. The British Symphonic Collection
currently comprising 15 CDs is another on going recording project
featuring previously unrecorded works by British composers.
Recent and future guest conducting engagements include appearances
with Aarhus and Odense Symphony Orchestras, the BBC National
Orchestra of Wales, the London Philharmonic Orchestra, the
Calgary Philharmonic, the Kitchener-Waterloo Symphony and the
Sverdlovsk State Philharmonic. Since April in 2006, he has
been Principal Guest Conductor of Tokyo Kosei Wind Orchestra.
