news

The Tokyo Kosei Wind Orchestra (TKWO) will become a general incorporated association on April 1, 2022, and develop its activities independent of Rissho Kosei-kai. TKWO started in 1960 as a Rissho Kosei-kai-affiliated wind orchestra and was formerly called the Kosei Symphonic Band.

Following Rissho Kosei-kai's decision in November 2020 to withdraw from management of TKWO, consultation between Rissho Kosei-kai and TKWO began at the request of TKWO members and the office staff. In June 2021, Rissho Kosei-kai decided to turn TKWO into a general incorporated association and continue its financial assistance during the transitional period from April 2022 until March 2025. An agreement based on this decision was then formed between Rissho Kosei-kai and TKWO.

During the three years of the transitional period, while receiving assistance from Rissho Kosei-kai, TKWO will introduce a support-member system to strengthen its financial basis and will continue to fulfill its responsibility as a world acclaimed professional wind orchestra.

TKWO is firmly convinced, through its longtime activities, that music possesses the power to change people and society. All of us members and the staff of TKWO believe in the value of music and are confident that TKWO, through its performance, will continue to share the value of music with many more people. We are united as one force to contribute to the development of musical culture and the spiritual enrichment of society.

As a general incorporated association, TKWO will develop activities that are further conscious of its connection with society. On behalf of TKWO, I would like to express our renewed gratitude for your kind patronage and ask for your continued support of our activities.
